Dear cooking,
If you know me, you know that I love to cook and bake. Just being in the kitchen in general gives me a sense of peace most of the time. It is not something I would want to do for a living, but it is something that feels like a nice change in my everyday life. There are definitely days where I don’t like it, but honestly, most of the time I do really enjoy it. For me it is also a way to express myself creatively. I have the privilege to have to possibility to be creative in my daily life and in the career path that I’m working in and towards. But I also love to be creative while cooking or even baking.
It probably also has something to do with the fact that I love to make people happy and bring loved ones together. I’ve always loved to do and have this on special days or holidays, but also love it in everyday life. It makes the house feel all nice and cosy, brings good conversations and filled bellies. It might be a simple gesture of simple thing, but I absolutely love it.
I love to try new things and new recipes, excited to see how they turn out or what I could do to improve them. I love to work in the kitchen with people I care about in the living room and having conversations with them while cooking. A big plus while cooking or baking is that, most of the time at least, the house smells amazing. Especially while baking during the holiday season in the winter time, I absolutely love it.
You can call me crazy, I don’t mind, but when it comes down to Christmas and the holiday season, the planning part already gives me so much joy. Planning all the meal and cookies I’ll make, planning all the gifts and stockings, decorations and so on. It makes me happy; it brings me joy and it makes me even more excited and giddy about the cosy days. Most of the year it is definitely not all fun and games and there are always things that go wrong, but I still truly believe that part of it is always what you make it.
I have always believed that having a meal together can be so precious and important. Don’t get me wrong it definitely isn’t possible on all days, just because sometimes life gets in the way and we all know that life can be hectic sometimes. But I try to make it happen on most days with the people I care and love. Just talking about how the day was or about things that are happening in the next weeks or days for example. They don’t always have to be deep conversations, but it is still so important for your own well-being even if you might not realise it in that exact moment.
In the end, my love for cooking and baking is so much more than just preparing meals or trying out new recipes. It’s about creating moments of togetherness and about nurturing not only our bodies but also our souls. Whether it’s the comforting aroma of freshly baked good on a winter’s day or the laughter and chatter shared over a simple meal, these moments are the true essence of what should be cherished. It’s a reminder that amidst the hustle and bustle, there’s always room for spending time with each other.
All my love,
Anna
