Dear change,
Change is a sign of growth, right? Even if it might not feel as if it is at the exact moment, it is what we should keep in mind. Change is scary, and yet we should and we have to go with it. We have to go with the choice that is the scariest, not the one that might be the easiest. Yet change is heart-breaking, nerve wrecking, lonely, exciting, scary, full of overthinking, questioning all your choice in life, loving, enlightening, hard and amazing.
I once read the quote ‘be loyal to your future, not your past’, and honestly, I feel as if that is a pretty good summary of ‘change’. Even though, obviously, there are more things that are hiding behind this. We all go our own way, our paths might cross, our paths they might change, but in the end, we are working for the future we have in front of us and not for the past that is behind us. Trust me, I know, this is so much harder than all of us think.
It is hard, because change will hurt you, change will change you. You can’t avoid changes in your life and in the end that is great, because a life without change would become boring really fast. Some might be for the good and some might be for the bad, but that’s just life for you.
Change or maybe life in general is not for the impatient people among us. Getting used to changes takes time. It takes time for life and for you to write and find your own story. It is very cheesy but definitely true when they say that you will only really regret the chances you didn’t take. Obviously not everything will go right and maybe you’ll be embarrassed by something you do or you’ve done. For me personally, it always helped to keep in mind that it is all part of my journey and it all lead me to the point in life where I am right now. We as humans will never be completely satisfied with what we have, because once we reach one goal our minds are already working out our next steps and the next goals we want to reach. I think the most beautiful thing you can do is strive to find happiness along the journey instead of hoping to find it at some point or at the goal you have in mind.
I can’t write about change without writing about finding yourself. Because let’s be honest, the whole process of finding who you are is full of changes. You come to a point in life where you start to realise that you are enough as who you are and you start to accept yourself. You are enough for you. Still, it can be hard to feel that you are enough for other people as well.
Take the shot for whatever it might be you want in life. Stop making excuses, trust me, been there, done that. You can work on more things at the same time. You’ll only know if it is something that you want to keep doing in life if you try it once. If you love it, great, if you don’t like it, great as well, at least you tried. You can be proud of yourself for trying and you won’t regret not taking the risk or not taking the shot while you had the chance when you are older.
All my love,
Anna
Dear Anna,
It has been very interesting to read this love letter about the way you think about “change” and “changing”. You are right that you will be changing all the time, even you are not always aware of it. Life will be very dull if there are no changes at all. I like the way in which you try to explain how you feel about changes in your own life.
Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to read your thoughts about “change”!
Best wishes,
Ed.
