Dear patience,
What is patience anyway? We all have a certain understanding and definition for patience, but it seems as if it is extremely difficult to put into words. Some people seem to be very good at ‘being patient’ and others might experience some difficulties when it comes to ‘being patient’. It is something that can be pretty personal to be honest, but here is my take on it.
Patience is not just knowing how to wait; it is knowing the worth of time and starting to figure out what really is worth that said time. Sometimes patience is very closely related to understanding. In moments where we often want to get mad, we don’t, but we try to understand, we are being patient instead of lashing out. At the end of the day, you’ll gain nothing from lashing out, but there is a pretty big chance that you’ll will gain something from trying to understand the situation. Maybe you could say that in a way, patience goes hand in hand with wisdom.
A caterpillar doesn’t just become a butterfly. Growth is a process, growth takes patience. Love is process, love takes patience, but it is beautiful to explore and to enjoy because it can bring you so much happiness. Sometimes it feels like we have to be reminded about the fact that as humans, we have to be patient, not only with each other, but also with ourselves. The best things in life often happen unexpectedly and take time.
For me patience has been a really big part of different healing processes. At the beginning I found this very hard and frustrating, but as time passed, I started to realise that everything has its own time even if you might not see it from the start. Most of the time, you don’t see the finish line when you are at your starting point and that is exactly what makes life fun. I’m going to be honest with you, I’m one of those people who sometimes have a hard time with letting go of control. However, not knowing and not seeing the finish line of different parts of your life is exactly one of the things that makes life worth living.
“Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet”
Aristotle
I’m turning 22 this year (still can’t believe that to be honest), and with some things I’ve experience I just don’t believe that it is coincidence. Some things just fit like a missing piece of a puzzle. Maybe some things are just meant to happen. People always say that the timing might not always be right, but eventually maybe destiny steps in and you just need to have a bit of patience.
Who knows, maybe your patience grows and gets tested when you open up your heart enough to let love in. With patience beautiful things are ahead of you. Don’t get me wrong, you should not just sit around patiently and wait for life to happen or for life to give you what you want. However, you can dream big, work hard, love like you’ve never been hurt and still be patient. Good things come from the balance between working towards your dreams and being loving and patient.
All my love,
Anna
Dear Anna,
This topic “patience” is one I find very worth thinking of.
A Dutch proverb says that having patience is a thing of beauty (“geduld is een schone zaak”).
And after 75 years I can admit that this is really true!
So when I want to be patient, I always sing the 59th Street Bridge Song by Simon and Garfunkel and guess…it mostly works! So I like to quote this song for you here:
59th Street Bridge Song
by Simon &n Garfunkel
Slow down you move too fast
You have to make the morning last
Just, kicking down the cobbled stones
dee dee da dee dee feeling groovy
Ain’t got no deeds to do, no promises to keep
I’m dabbled and drowsy and ready to sleep
Let the morning sun drops all it’s petals on me
Life I love you feeling groovy!
Hello lamppost, what you knowing?
I’ve come to watch your flowers growing
Ain’t you got ni rhymes for me?
dee dee da dee dee feelin’ groovy!
This song really helps me to become calm and taking my time to become patient!
Maybe it will also be of use for you.
Kind regards,
Ed.
