A love letter to the cosy season

Dear cosy season,

It is no secret that I absolutely love Christmas time and everything that comes with it. Don’t get me wrong, I really dislike the short days and long nights. However, I love snuggling up with a blanket, I love hoodies and hot chocolate or tea. It is not even all about the days that are dedicated to Christmas itself, but more the whole month of November and December. All the cosiness that you see around you, all the lights and all the trips you take. All the baking, all the movies and all the snuggling. Comfort food, fuzzy socks, soft blankets and throws and comforting drinks. It is the warmth that fills our hearts during the cold season.

It is a reminder to me as well. A reminder that it is important to keep the people you care about and the people you love close to you. I dare to say that I am a person who is always very conscious about this however, it is a time of the year where you really realise that you shouldn’t take them for granted at all.

The crisp autumn air turns into even colder winter days. We hear people complain about the days getting darker and the nights getting longer. I’ve always been one of them and honestly, I still am. But what makes it better for me is realising all the positive things that are coming with this time of the year. The holidays that are coming up, the hot drinks and the giving back to others. Decorating the house, putting up the Christmas tree, baking Christmas cookies and sharing all the good food and laughter with the people around me.

Yes, it is cold, it gets really hard sometimes as well. But there is so much beauty you can find during this time of year as well. October almost starts and slowly but surely, I’m starting to think about Christmas presents, I’m starting to think about all the yummy food and the stockings. All the fun activities that are coming up, Christmas markets, advent calendars, movie nights with hot chocolate or tea and cookies, going ice skating, you name it. Whatever it is, it makes this season so much brighter than all the lights are already trying to do.

Winter’s beauty lies not only in its visual splendour but also in the feelings of peace wonder, and togetherness it inspires. It encourages us to slow down, appreciate the smack things, and find beauty even in the harshest of conditions. Winter’s allure is a reminder that even in the coldest of times, there is warmth and magic to be found.

The start of a new year is also part of the so called ‘cosy time’ and it is incredibly fascinating. Obviously, the commercial market has done many things to make sure that they can make a lot of money with the start of a new year. But there is so much more. Time honestly flies and if you tell me that 2024 starts in about three months I’m absolutely flabbergasted. So, we better make the best out of the time we have and embrace all the positivity we can find. Because life is beautiful and cosy even if it doesn’t always seem that way.

I can’t wait for everything that is about to happen in these upcoming months!

All my love,

Anna

  1. My dear Anna,

This “Loveletter” inspired me to reflect on what you have written.
Especially the second paragraph is one that inspired me to think it over.
And you are quite right to come to the conclusion, that you don’t have to take these feelings you have about people for whom you care a lot, are for granted!
Every now and again it is very important to realize this.
And the fifth paragraph is also very important to think of.
We have to find time to think things over and not go on and on, without a apuse for thinking things over.
Thank you again for sharing these feelings and thoughts, Anna.
    Best wishes,
    Ed.
